DISASTER STRIKES EVERYONE – AT SOME TIME

§ Emergency services will respond but citizens could be on their own for hours, or days.
§ Be prepared to take care of yourself and your family for a minimum of three days and up to a week.

 NEIGHBORS:

§ Your most immediate source of help will be your neighbors

§ Prepare an emergency kit for your home, have your neighborhood Association make a list of neighbors, have a designated place (spot in the neighborhood park, someone home, etc) for everyone to gather, those who are not there need to be search out or accounted.  Know the locations of each natural gas meter and propane tank

§ Know neighbors who may need special assistance

Map out evacuation route and map out neighborhood.

Identify the skills and equipment each neighbor has to help in a disaster response.
Lack of preparedness by others could impact you. Increase your level of security by encouraging your neighbors, friends and family to get prepared

If going to city storm shelter – see list of what to take with you.

See After storm - Clean up and What NOT to do.
See Do’s and Don’ts’ home interior / exterior list

PREPARE YOUR FAMIILY

Decide how and when your family will reunite, if separated, meet at neighborhood designated place if there is one, if not make your own. (give each one map to keep with them).

Each family member should take a Basic First Aid/CPR Class
